Ausimik's Guitars and Stuff Updated.

I’ve updated my Flickr set. I’ve gone a bit mad lately buying guitars. I think I may be replacing one addiction (smoking) with another.

I’ve been able to take advantage of the recent “recession” there are bargains everywhere. I feel a bit guilty for being in a position to be able to do it! Being single again does mean I have more cash at my disposal!

But I’d trade it all in an instant to have Tania back and my kids at home again.

I haven’t blogged for a while now, god know’s it’s not because I have nothing to say…some people say I just won’t shut up! What prompted this however, was what I can only hope is an extrordinary run of good luck. I say extrordinary because getting through the day without bursting into flames is considered lucky for me of late! Any one who has known me for any length of time knows I like guitars. They are a hobby of mine. I like to play them and play with them. Recently I’ve been fortunate enough to make what I consider some very good purchases. I will deal with each individually. However I’ll start today with the one I like the most. It wasn’t the most expensive, it isn’t particularly rare or even desirable (except to me). But it is one of those instances where everything just clicked!! The instrument is a 2003 Epiphone Junior Model. Not to be confused with the re-issue Les Paul Juniors. The Junior models, while obviously based on the LP Jr, are different enough to stand alone. They are basic low cost guitars (as was the LP Jr on which it is based) It has a bolt on neck single tone and volume pots and came equipped originally with an Epiphone humbucker and cheap vintage style tuners. Fit and finish of this guitar is equal to that of any Epiphone I have or have seen. The previous owner has replaced the pickup with a DiMarzio and the tuners with grovers. Ok you say so what! But I’ve had this guitar for two days now, and have played it almost non stop! It has become in a very short time my favourite! I have re-issue Les Paul Juniors,  Fenders, Ibanez’z, Gretches etc costing many orders of magnitusde what this little guitar cost, but this thing plays, feels and sounds absolutely bloody brilliant! These people are just too greedy and too stupid!

When will the IFPI and the large film and music companies get it… we hate you, we hate what you are doing. reduce the price of movies and music, give us what we want when we want it and illegal downloads will go away. Stop gouging us for maximum profit margins. We are the customers, and aren’t we always right?

Even without the hundreds killed and thousands homeless in the bushfires, or the millions who may, or already have lost their jobs and homes in the current economic climate. I doubt I’d feel sorry for some grubby old sheila who won’t cut her nails!

Another first!

This has been a year of firsts for us. First anniversary, first Easter, first birthdays for each of the kids, and now the first Xmas. All the first without Tania. For the kids it’ll be the first Xmas ever without their Mum, for me the first in twenty five years. Xmas was always special for Tania, it was the only time she saw all her family together at once. It was the closest we had to a tradition, going to Young every Xmas Day to be with family. I intend to try and keep the tradition going, mainly for the kids, but also because she’d want it. I don’t know quite how I feel about it just yet. I guess over the next few days I’ll feel a bit of everything…certainly different.
