Day +10

Just home. The kids and I went down to Sydney to see Tania for the weekend. We had a very scary day Saturday, we waited for her to be released back to her ward from the cardiac care unit. Apparently on Thursday during surgery to replace her central line, her heart stopped. The medical staff were able to get it going again and no permanent harm was done, however they have decided not to change the line.  The reason for the complication is still not clear, but appears to be due to either the feeder cable coming into contact with the heart or the fact that her potassium levels were extremely low.

She is recovering slowly, and things still appear to be going to plan. She is in a lot of pain due the ulceration of her oesophagus and throat. Morphine is the only thing they can give her for relief for now. Her Doctor said she should start feeling better in a week or so when her white cell count starts to rise. Until then it’s just wait…
