Still a long row to hoe, but the end is out there somewhere!

Just got home from Sydney again. Tania is improving every day. Still a long row to hoe though.

She is walking again with the aid of a walking frame, but she is still very dependant on others for even the simplest of tasks. I’ve been with her twenty four hours a day for the last few weeks. She is now at the stage where her sister can manage her during the day, and I think she can manage at night with minimal assistance.

She has her voice back, but still cant manage to swallow, it’s now been nearly two months since she has swallowed any food or drink. However her Doctors feel this will continue to improve and hopefully she’ll be eating by the end of the week.  The plan then is for her to go into intense physio once the drips are down and when she’s strong enough she’ll be allowed to leave the hospital. This means that her return to home here in Wagga has been put back for about another month or so, but we’re just happy she’s still with us.

The Doctors are pleased at the progress she’s made to date, and there is still no sign of Leukaemia returning. (fingers crossed)

It’s been the toughest few weeks to date, especially as the Doctor’s confided in us that she wasn’t expected to come out of ICU.

However, barring any further major bouts of infection, and if she continues to fight (Tania is a tough old girl) the outlook is still pretty positive.

Thanks again for all your positive thoughts and well wishes, they’ve meant a lot.

P.S. Tania feels that as she was in intensive care for her 40th birthday, and doesn’t remenber it, it shouldn’t count! That’s fine by me!
